Tips for a Better Consultation

All new users, and new projects by existing users, are expected to meet with the Facility staff to discuss the details of their projects. The more we understand the protocols and goals of your project the better we can support your research.

Before Your Consultation

Send your most up to date version of your Biosafety Form to cellsort@caltech.edu along with any relevant sample preparation protocols, downstream protocols, publications, or presentations to give us more background information on what you're doing and what you're trying to achieve.

Log into our instrument calendar with your Caltech credentials to get an idea of our typical availability so you can start to visualize your sample preparation.

Try your hand at building a panel with FluoroFinder using our instrument configurations (create a free account to use). Don't know where to start? We can help you build out your panel during the consult.

During Your Consultation

Consults can occur in person or via zoom and take about 30 minutes to an hour. Be prepared to talk about your project. We will be reviewing your Biosafety Form in detail and will ask you clarify questions and give you recommendations along the way. Ask us questions at any time and bring something to take notes on.

After Your Consultation

Do your homework: your panel may need final revisions, products may need to be purchased by your lab, you may want to do a practice run of your sample preparation protocol.

Ask us more questions if you have them or even schedule a second mini consultation if you feel like you need it.

Feeling ready? Check our instrument calendar for availability and contact cellsort@caltech.edu to schedule instrument or training time.
